‘कान्हा प्रकरण’ की स्मृतियाँ भले मिट चुकी हों लेकिन हिंदी के दो वरिष्ठ लेखक-कवियों में सवाल जवाब का सिलसिला अभी जारी है. पढ़िए विष्णु खरे का स्पष्टीकरण और एक कविता राजेश जोशी की- जानकी पुल.

कान्हा-शिल्पायन सान्निध्य में शिरकत को लेकर अन्य भागीदारों सहित साहित्य अकादमी पुरस्कार विजेता राजेश जोशी के नैतिक संकट से सहानुभूति होनी चाहिए। मैंने ”कान्हा ने साहित्यिक गोप-गोपियों की मटकियाँ फोड़ीं’’ शीर्षक अपनी टिप्पणी को दुबारा पढ़ा। वह हास्यास्पद नहीं है, हास्योत्पादक हो सकती है। उसमें कोई घृणा, हिसा और कुत्सा भी मुझे नहीं दिखीं, व्यंग्यातिरेक हो सकता है। ऐसे आरोप हरिशंकर परसाई के व्यंग्यों पर जनसंघी अब भी लगाते हैं। मैं परसाईजी की चरण-धूलि भी नहीं हूँ। उस टिप्पणी के ऊपर जो उर्ध्वशीर्षक (स्लग) दिया गया है वह मेरा नहीं है। मेरे शीर्षक में ”कान्हा’’ के श्लेषार्थ कृष्ण को लेकर वाक्-क्रीडा है। मटकियाँ फोड़ना भंडाफोड़ करना भी कहा जा सकता है। राजेश जोशी के अश्लील मस्तिष्क को गोपीजनवल्लभ की ऐसी अन्य लीलाएं तो कितनी फ़ोह्श लगती होंगी ! स्पष्ट है कि स्मृति-न्यास के बावजूद उनके पिता का संस्कृत-ज्ञान इस कमाल बेटे के लिए तो व्यर्थ ही नष्ट हुआ।
मेरी टिप्पणी प्रकाशित होने के पहले ही मुझे भान हो चुका था कि राजेश जोशी अपने पिता की स्मृति में कोई पुरस्कार नहीं देते, लेकिन तब तक मुद्रणार्थ जा चुके मसविदे में भूल-सुधार नहीं हो सकता था। इसीलिए कोलकाता में प्रकाशन के तुरंत बाद सुबह दस बजे के पहले जो संशोधित मसविदा नैट पर भेजा गया, और वही कुछ ब्लॉगों पर प्रकाशित हुआ और उसी पर प्रतिक्रियाएं भी आईं, उसमें ‘पुरस्कार’ की जगह स्पष्ट ‘अनुष्ठान’ था और उसी मसविदे को अंतिम मानने का अनुरोध भी कर दिया गया था। जब अन्य लेखों सहित यह टिप्पणी कभी मेरी किसी पुस्तक में समाविष्ट होगी तो संशोधित रूप में ही होगी। फिर भी इस त्रुटि के लिए मैं सभी प्रभावित लोगों का क्षमाप्रार्थी हूँ।
अपने दिवंगत पिता को राजेश जोशी लगातार पंडित लिख रहे हैं। उनकी स्मृति में दिए गए एक मोएँजोदड़ो को छोड़कर अन्य भाषणों के विषयों से स्पष्ट है कि वे मूलत: सवर्ण, पंडिताऊ, हिन्दू पुनरुत्थानवादी परम्परा के बखान से सम्बद्ध हैं। उनमें हमारे करोड़ों दलितों, वंचितों, स्त्रियों और अल्पसंख्यकों-जैसों के लिए कुछ भी सार्थक नहीं है। यह पिछले दरवाज़े से हिन्दुत्ववादी ताक़तों का ही अजेंडा-प्रवेश है। कुमार अम्बुज को कम-से-कम इसमें अजेंडे का टोटा महसूस नहीं होगा। यदि हुआ भी, तो इस वर्ष के पंडित भगवान सिह उसे पूरा कर देंगे। यह वही महाविद्बान हैं जो मानते हैं कि सिन्धु घाटी सभ्यता वैदिक यानी आर्य सभ्यता ही है। इन्हें विधिवत न तो संस्कृत आती है और न संसार की कोई भी अन्य प्राचीन भाषा, लेकिन सिन्धु लिपि में वैदिक ऋचाएँ सहज ही देख लेते हैं। अपने उच्चारण की दिक्क़तों के कारण वे फ़ारसी नोश फर्माने को नोस (नोज़ के अपने पहाड़ी अंग्रेज़ी संस्करण) से जोड़ देते हैं और एक संस्कृतिशून्य मतिमंद सम्पादक इस भाषाशास्त्रीय खोज को अपने अज्ञान में छाप देता है।
यह भारतीय पुरातत्व की उस घनघोर प्रतिक्रियावादी पाठशाला के बटुक हैं जो चहुँओर आर्य-संस्कृति देखते हैं। महापंडित भगवान सिह, रोमिला थापर, शिरीन रलागर आदि को अपना शत्रु समझते हैं क्योंकि वे उन्हें पुरातत्व-शून्य समझते हैं। विश्व-पुरातत्व (और हिदी साहित्य) में भगवान सिह को कोई गंभीरता से नहीं लेता। मैं नहीं, कोई भी नहीं जानता कि पं ईशनारायण जोशी की राजनीति क्या थी और उनकी प्रकाशन-सूची क्या है, लेकिन उनके सुपुत्र ने उनकी स्मृति में भगवान सिह को बुलाकर अपने रुझान या अज्ञान को निर्ममतापूर्वक निर्वसन कर दिया है। यह वह मक़ाम है जहाँ से साध्वी ऋतंभरा, बाबा रामदेव और बापूद्बय आसाराम-मोरारी दूर नहीं हैं। मध्यप्रदेश जैसे राज्य के वर्तमान दौर में ऐसी पितृभक्ति के पुण्य-लाभ बहुआयामी हैं।
राजेश जोशी की लीलाधर मंडलोई की पैरवी पोच और पाखण्डमय है। भतीजा शिल्पायन चचा लीलाधर के उपकारों का निस्संकोच और कृतकृत्य बयान कर रहा है, (शायद ताऊ) राजेश जोशी उसमें कुछ ही घंटों और संभवत: का आचमन कर रहे हैं। वे बहुत कुछ जानते लगते हैं। भोपाल में निराला नगर के पास भदभदा रोड पर तो शायद विज्ञापन ठेलों पर मुफ्त बांटते होंगे। और क्या हम जानते नहीं हैं कि कस्बाई रेडियो-दूरदर्शन के आसपास कितने-किस किस्म के लेखक चिरौरियाँ करते चक्कर लगाते हैं। यह जानना दिलचस्प होगा कि भोपाल दूरदर्शन के लिए अब तक कितने कार्यक्रम पं. राजेश जोशी ने किए हैं और दिल्ली या बाहर कितने मैंने। दूरदर्शन की स्थापना से मेरा आँकड़ा शायद पंद्रह तक भी नहीं पहुंचता। बीच में तत्कालीन प्रधानमंत्री अटल बिहारी वाजपेयी की कविताओं की सार्वजनिक निदा करने के कारण आकाशवाणी-दूरदर्शन द्बारा मुझे सेंसर किया गया और मुझपर पाँच वर्षों का (नितांत अनावश्यक) ‘बैन’ लगाया गया । इस सवाल का कोई उत्तर ही नहीं दे पा रहा है कि जब शिल्पायन का कार्यक्रम निजी और एकांत था तो आल इंडिया रेडियो वहाँ पहुँचाया क्यों गया? कल को तो अपने लाडले भतीजे के यहाँ किसी शादी के लेडीज़-संगीत को रिकॉर्ड करने डी जी चाचू एक उड़न-दस्ता भिजवा देंगे। पितृ-स्मृति भाषण तो, खैर, रेकॉîडग-योग्य होगा ही। उसे तो भोपाल दूरदर्शन में बैठे अपने पारम्परीण मित्र भी रिकॉर्ड करते होंगे।
अपनी शर्तों पर प्रकाशकों का लाडला होना आपत्तिजनक न हो, मेरा अनुभव है कि वह लगभग असंभव है। वाणी प्रकाशन मुझे कभी फ्रांकफुर्ट पुस्तक मेले में नहीं ले गया, वहाँ दोनों बार मैं आधिकारिक लेखक-मंडल के सदस्य के रूप में गया। वाणी प्रकाशन चाहता था कि विदेशी साहित्यों के हिदी अनुवाद की एक बड़ी योजना बने जिसमें अंग्रेजी तथा अन्य भाषाओँ के उपयोग में वह मेरी सहायता ले। ज़ाहिर है कि एक अनुवादक अपने खर्च पर क्यों और कैसे किसी समर्थ प्रकाशक की बहुत-सारी तकनीकी मदद करने विदेश जाएगा? उस महत्वाकांक्षा को चेस्वाव मीवोश और विस्वावा शिम्बोर्स्का के मेरे एक अनुवाद के साथ याग्येलोनियन विश्वविद्यालय, क्राकोव के एक भारतविद्या सम्मेलन में शिरकत, विश्व हिदी सम्मेलन, लन्दन में कुछ अन्य पुस्तकों और हिदी लेखकों के एक फोटो-कैलेण्डर के साथ भागीदारी और अम्स्तर्दम की एक अनुवाद-संस्था और उसकी संचालिका रूडी वेस्टर, एक सबसे बड़े प्रकाशन-गृह बेज़िखे बेइ की स्वामिनी और डच भाषा के दो शीर्षस्थ उपन्यासकार सेस नोटेबोम तथा (अब दिवंगत) हरी मूलिश के साथ मुलाकातों और द्बिपक्षीय समझौतों के साथ साकार किया गया। इन दोनों लेखकों के तीन उपन्यास मेरे अनुवाद में वाणी ने प्रकाशित भी किए हैं। रूडी वेस्टर और सेस नोटेबोम इस घटना से इतने उत्साहित थे कि वे भारत के विश्व पुस्तक मेले में पहली बार आए और मनोहर श्याम जोशी ने नोटेबोम के मेरे अनुवाद अगली कहानी का विमोचन वाणी के स्टाल पर किया। हिदी प्रकाशन के इतिहास में अब तक यह एक अद्बितीय घटना है। वाणी प्रकाशन के अरुण माहेश्वरी से भी पूछताछ की जा सकती है।
मेरी सबसे पहली विदेश यात्रा और विदेश में सबसे लंबा प्रवास, सितम्बर 1971 से अक्टूबर 1973 का, तत्कालीन चेकोस्लोवाकिया, प्राग का है। तब शायद वह मुल्क सोविएत संघ में ही था। यह उस लेखक-अनुवादक फैलोशिप के सिलसिले में था जो पहले निर्मल वर्मा को मिली थी। मेरा चुनाव केन्द्रीय संस्कृति विभाग द्बारा तब हुआ था जब चुने गए मूल मलयालम लेखक ने पारिवारिक कारणों से जाने से इनकार कर दिया। प्राग में रहते हुए बहुत कम छात्रवृत्ति होने के कारण छुट्टियों में मैं तीन बार पश्चिम जर्मनी के ब्लैक फोरेस्ट इलाके के साँक्ट पेटर गाँव के होटल त्सुम हिर्शेन में बारटेंडर के रूप में काम करने गया। किस्साकोताह, होटल के मालिक पेटर बाउडेनडीस्टल ने, जो जीवित हैं और अब भी मेरे मित्र हैं, प्रस्ताव रखा कि मैं भारत छोड़ कर आ जाऊं और वह होटल चलाऊँ। वह होटल आज एक अरब रुपए से ज्यादा कीमत का होगा। मुझे नहीं जाना था, मैं नहीं गया। मैं अभी भी चाहूं तो विदेशी नागरिक बन सकता हूँ लेकिन एक भारतीय लेखक के रूप में उस अस्तित्व को नरक मानता हूँ। उसके बाद जब मैं साहित्य अकादमी में था तो मुझे मेरे कुछ जर्मन-ज्ञान के कारण और निजी लेखक-अनुवादक की हैसियत से पश्चिम जर्मनी बुलाया गया। वह शायद दस दिनों की यात्रा रही होगी लेकिन उससे बहुत पहले हाइडेलबेर्ग विश्वविद्यालय में हिदी के सुविख्यात प्राध्यापक और बाद में मेरे घनिष्ठतम मित्र डॉ लोठार लुत्से मेरे बिना जाने मेरी दो कविताओं के अनुवाद न सिर्फ जर्मन में कर चुके थे बल्कि लेज़ेबूख ट्रिटे वेल्ट नामक जर्मन स्कूली पाठ्यपुस्तक में ले चुके थे।
दो जर्मन यात्राओं को छोड़कर, जो नवभारत टाइम्स में पत्रकारिता से सम्बद्ध थीं और राजेंद्र माथुर के आदेशों पर की गयी थीं – एक प्रधानमंत्री राजीव गाँधी के साथ उनके जर्मनी, सीरिया, राष्ट्र-संघ और हंगरी दौरे की और दूसरी हेल्मूठ कोल के अंतिम (पराजित) चुनाव के समय की – मेरी सारी विदेश यात्राएँ साहित्यिक हुई हैं और साहित्यिक या अकादमिक संस्थाओं के निमंत्रण पर हुई हैं। उनके ब्योरे देने के लिए मुझे मंगलेश डबराल की ‘एक बार आयोवा’ से कई गुना बड़ी पुस्तक लिखनी पड़ेगी। जिस शैली में अधिकांश हिदी लेखक अपने विदेश-वृत्तान्त लिखते हैं वह मुझमें दया, क्रोध और हास्य की जटिल भावनाएं पैदा करती है। मैंने जिन विदेशी विश्वविद्यालयों और संस्थानों में जो व्याख्यान दिए हैं, जो सारे अंग्रेजी में हैं और उनमें से कुछ विदेश में छपे भी हैं, उनकी सूचीमात्र को ही आत्मश्लाघा माना जाएगा क्योंकि उनके बखान के लिए मेरे पास न झोलाउठाऊ दासमंडल है न कोई आत्ममुग्ध कॉलम। मैं यह दावा अवश्य करूंगा कि हिदी के मुक्तिबोधोत्तर और युवा साहित्यकारों को लेकर मैंने विदेश में जितना कहा और किया है उतना अज्ञेय, निर्मल वर्मा और अशोक वाजपेयी तीनों के सम्मिलित बूते की बात नहीं रही है।
स्वयं पं. राजेश जोशी को याद होगा कि मैंने उनके कुछ अनुवाद अंग्रेजी में तीस बरस पहले किए थे, वह छपे, उन के आधार पर जर्मन हिन्दीविद् लोठार लुत्से के साथ मैंने उनके अनुवाद जर्मन में किए जो हम दोनों द्बारा संपादित जर्मन में हिदी कविता के पहले मुकम्मिल संग्रह ‘डेअर ओक्सेनकरेन’ में मुक्तिबोध, शमशेर, नागार्जुन, त्रिलोचन, कुंवर नारायण, रघुवीर सहाय, श्रीकांत वर्मा, केदारनाथ सिह, मलयज, धूमिल, चंद्रकांत देवताले, सौमित्र मोहन, सोमदत्त, विनोदकुमार शुक्ल, प्रयाग शुक्ल, लीलाधर जगूड़ी, गिरधर राठी, विनोद भरद्बाज, विष्णु नागर, अरुण कमल तथा असद जैदी की कविताओं तथा अशोक वाजपेयी के एक पश्चकथन के साथ 1983 में प्रकाशित हुआ। ऐसा संग्रह किसी अन्य विदेशी भाषा में तो अब तक नहीं है, स्वयं हिदी में नहीं है। पं. जोशी को याद होगा कि उन्हें उनकी कविताओं का प्रति-सहित पारिश्रमिक भी भेजा गया था। इसके बाद भी प्रो. मोनीका बोएम-टेटेलबाख़ के सहसम्पादन में हमारे युवतर कवि-कवयित्रियों का एक संकलन, जिसमें अन्य के अलावा कात्यायनी, अनीता वर्मा, सविता सिह तथा निर्मला गर्ग की रचनाएँ भी थीं, जर्मन में 2००6 में छपा। एक कहानी संग्रह के चयन-सम्पादन में मैंने प्रो. उल्ररीके श्टार्क और डॉ बार्बरा लोत्स को सहयोग दिया जिसमें योगेन्द्र आहूजा सहित कुछ नितांत युवा कथाकार हैं। इसी तरह डच में डॉ दिक् प्लुकर और डॉ लोदेवेइक ब्रुंत द्बारा संकलित-अनुदित महानगर-केन्द्रित हिदी कविताओं के चयन ‘इक ज़ाख दे ष्टाट’ के प्रकाशन में भी मेरी कुछ भूमिका है। उदय प्रकाश और अलका सरावगी को जर्मनी में परिचित करवाने का श्रेय भी मैं लेना चाहूँगा। लोठार लुत्से से इस मामले में सघन बातचीत की जा सकती है। आजकल वे मेरे आग्रह पर पच्चासी वर्ष की उम्र और गंभीर बीमारी के बावजूद नीलेश रघुवंशी का ‘एक कस्बे के नोट्स’ और संजीव बक्शी का ‘भूलन कांदा’ पढ़ रहे हैं। मैं अभी जुलाई में उनके साथ बर्लिन में था।
पं जोशी एक और घटना भूलते हैं। मैंने हंगरी जाकर प्रसिद्ध नाटककार फ़ेरेंत्स कारिन्थी की अनूठी कृति ‘बोएज़ेन्डोर्फ़र’ का अनुवाद ‘पिआनो बिकाऊ है’ शीर्षक से किया था जिसे वाणी प्रकाशक ने बत्तीस बरस पहले छापा था। पंडितजी को यह इतना पसंद आया कि उन्होंने शायद मुझे पूर्वसूचना दिए बग़ैर उसे खुद भोपाल में प्रोड्यूस और डाइरेक्ट ही नहीं किया, बल्कि उसमें नायक की भूमिका भी निबाही। मुझे ख़त और फोटो भी भेजे। लेकिन बाद में उन्हीं के कई नाट्य-मित्रों ने मुझसे ख़ुफ़िया तौर पर बताया कि वह इतना अच्छा नाटक पं जोशी के निर्माता-निदेशक-अभिनेता के त्रिशिरा घटियापन के कारण ही फ्लॉप हुआ। यह लतीफा भी सुना जाता है उसके सदमे से उबरने के लिए भोपाल के हमारे इस संजीव कुमार ने कई दिनों तक लुकमान अली की तरह नशा किया और अदाकारी को तो शायद हमेशा के लिए तर्क कर दिया, या एक्टिंग की भी तो भारी पुलिस बंदोबस्त में की।
बहरहाल, अजीब है कि जो मश्कूक शख्स टाइम्स ऑफ़ इंडिया सरीखे वैश्वीकृत सहस्रबाहु-सहस्राक्ष तंत्र और राजेंद्र माथुर और एस पी सिह सरीखे चौकस संपादकों की पैनी आँखों और घ्राणेन्द्रियों के ठीक नीचे सी आइ ए की एजेंटी अंजाम दे रहा था उसकी संदिग्ध विदेश-यात्राओं के साहित्यिक प्रतिफलों का फायदा तो पंडित सूरमा भोपाली उठाएँ लेकिन संपादकी से इस्तीफा देने के बीस बरस बाद उस पर अमरीकी जासूस होने का खलविदूषकोचित आरोप लगवाएं। यह भी विचित्र है कि कभी कम्युनिस्ट पार्टी का कार्ड-होल्डर होने के बावजूद सी आइ ए ने उसे एजेंट तो बना लिया लेकिन कभी एम्बेसी में नहीं बुलाया, अमेरिका भेजने की बात तो बहुत दूर की है। इस एजेंट को कभी किसी अमेरिकी संस्था ने भी आमंत्रित नहीं किया। वह निजी तौर पर भी अमेरिका नहीं गया। श्रीकांत वर्मा को आयोवा राइटिग प्रोग

ये वे लोग हैं जो पहले एक साथ एक थाली में खाते है, फिर एक दूसरे पर थूकते हैं.

जानकीपुल पर श्री जोशी का पिछला पत्र और श्री खरे पर लगाये गए प्रश्नचिन्हों के आलोक में श्री खरे से अपने बचाव और जवाबी हमले में यह पत्र लिखा जाना अपेक्षित ही था.. बाकी बातें जो भी हो पर कान्हा आयोजन के लिए मंडलोई जी के मार्फ़त विज्ञापन और सरकारी रेडिओ की उपस्थिति वहां सुनिश्चित करने के ग्राउंड पर श्री खरे का यूँ सवाल लेकर सामने आना जरुरी भी था ..स्वागतयोग्य भी.. पहले पत्र से ही श्री खरे ने अपनी भाषा संशोधित रखी होती और तय रखा होता कि हमला किस रेंज में किस पॉइंट पर कितने गोलों के साथ करना है तो उनकी बात एक जरुरी साहित्यिक हस्तक्षेप के रूप में सामने आती.. बहरहाल चिन्हित बिन्दुओं पर विमर्श की गुँजाइश अब भी शेष है..
