न न मैं नहीं कह रहा। http://www.poemhunter.com ने एक सूची जारी की है दुनिया के 500 सार्वकालिक लोकप्रिय कवियों की। कल इस ओर मेरा ध्यान आकर्षित किया लेखक-मित्र प्रचंड प्रवीर ने। इस वेबसाइट की दुनिया भर में प्रतिष्ठा है। इससे कोई भी कविता प्रेमी इंकार नहीं कर सकता। इस सूची में पहले नंबर पर हैं रॉबर्ट फ्रौस्ट, पाब्लो नेरुदा चौथे नंबर पर। लेकिन सबसे चौंकाने वाला नाम है इस सूची में 27 वें नंबर पर लोकप्रिय मंचीय कवि कुमार विश्वास का। उनसे ऊपर महज एक भारतीय कवि का नाम है कवि रवींद्रनाथ टैगोर का। जी, मिर्जा गालिब भी कुमार विश्वास के बाद वाले पायदान पर हैं और हमारी भाषा का पहला जनकवि कबीर 30 वें पायदान पर।
इस सूची में भारतीय भाषाओं के अनेक कवियों के नाम हैं, सबसे अधिक उर्दू, पंजाबी और बंगला भाषा के कवियों ने इसमें अपनी जगह बनाई है। हिन्दी के भी अनेक कवियों के नाम इस सूची में हैं। चुटकुलेबाज कवि अशोक चक्रधर से लेकर दिनकर, मैथिलीशरण गुप्त तक। सूची में निराला और जयशंकर प्रसाद के भी नाम हैं। सूची में तुलसीदास का भी नाम है। दुख हुआ कि हिन्दी के अंतर्राष्ट्रीय कवि, विश्व कविता के आयोजक, हिन्दी में विश्व कविता के तत्वों की पहचान करने वाले अशोक वाजपेयी का नाम इस सूची में नहीं है।
यह सही है कि गंभीरता और लोकप्रियता में अंतर होता है, यह कोई जरूरी नहीं है जो महान साहित्य होता है वह लोकप्रिय भी हो। लेकिन दुनिया की अन्य भाषाओं के सभी श्रेष्ठ कवियों के नाम इस सूची में हैं। बंगला भाषा के मेरे प्रिय कवि जीवनानन्द दास का भी नाम भी इस सूची में है। दुख हुआ कि आधुनिक हिन्दी कविता के किसी शीर्ष कवि का नाम इसमें नहीं है।
बहरहाल, इस सूची में प्रेमचंद का नाम देखकर मुझे आश्चर्य हुआ। उनकी कविताओं पर जरा विद्वान लोग प्रकाश डालें। मैंने कभी पढ़ी नहीं।
वैसे इस सूची का आधार क्या है यह समझ में नहीं आया, लेकिन सूची देखने लायक है।

Today, I went to the beach front with my kids.
