शुरूआत हुई थी 2005 में. अपने गांव वाले घर में चोरी होने के कारण ‘बगहा’ (उत्तरप्रदेश और नेपाल से सटा हुआ जो सदानीरा नारायणी नदी जिसे गंडक भी कहते हैं कि किनारे बसा हुआ. एक जमाने में मिनी चंबल के नाम से मशहूर) से अचानक गांव ‘पजिअरवा’ जाना पड़ा. यह भारत के बिहार प्रांत के मोतिहारी जिले के सुगौली प्रखंड में स्थित है जिसमें ग्रामपंचायत भी है. गाँव के लोगों को गर्व है कि पंचायत पजिअरवा के नाम से है. मतदाताओं की अधिकता और तीन में से दो मौको पर बहुलांश की एकजुटता की वज़ह से पंचायती राज की बहाली के बाद एक निवर्तमान मुखिया और एक वर्तमान मुखिया का ताल्लुक़ गाँव से ही है. गाँवसे हाइवे और रेलवे लाइन छः किलोमीटर की दूरी पर है. बचपन में ट्रेन पकड़ने के लिये नजदीकी हाल्ट धरमिनिया पैदल जाना आना पड़ता था, कभी-कभार बैलगाड़ी रहती. बरसात के चार महीने गाँव टापू बन जाता. कच्ची सड़कों और धान रोपने के लिये तैयार किये खेतों के बीच का फ़र्क़ मिट जाता था. सड़कें अलबत्ता खेतों से ऊंची थीं. जब कभी कोई दुस्साहसी वाहन उसमें फँसता तब उसे निकालना या निकलवाना एक सामाजिक कवायद होती. इसके लिये वाहन बाहर से बुलवाया जाता क्योंकि गांव में एक भी नहीं था. यह वाहन आम तौर पर ट्रैक्टर होता. जीप और उस जैसी चार पहिये वाहन का आगमन दुर्लभ था इसलिये उनका आगमन बच्चों के लिये जश्न था. वाहन की उड़ाई धूल लेने के लिये उसके पीछे देर तक दौड़ते थे.
ट्रैक्टर पर सवार ड्राइवर को कोई भी और कुछ भी सलाह दे सकता था. जैसे दांया कर, हाईड्रोलिक उठाव, हेने काट, होने काट आदि. बच्चे इस तमाशे के भी मुख्य दर्शक थे और युवक हाथ में कुदाल ले कर पांक काटते, पसीना बहाते हुए किसी तरह ट्रैक्टर को निकाल लेते. कच्ची से खड़ंजा, और खड़ंजा से पक्की सड़क कोलतार वाली बन गई है. कुछ गलियों में ढलुआ सड़कें बन गई है जिसे पीसीसी कहते है. होश के गुजरे दो दशक में मेरे द्वारा देखा गया ‘विकास’ यही है. स्कूल, कालेज, की बात मत पूछिये. जहाँ आवागमन का एकमात्र साधन पैदल था, वहाँ तांगा और जीप चलने लगे. धीरे-धीरे टैम्पो तांगे को विस्थापित कर रहे हैं. गाँव के ब्रह्म स्थान से ही जीप या टैम्पो पर बैठकर आप देश-दुनिया की यात्रा पर निकल सकते हैं. बाकी मोबाईल तो घर-घर में है ही. मुआ बिजली भी कुछ दिनों के लिये आयी लेकिन अपने पीछे दो जले ट्रांसफ़रमर छोड़कर दो सालों तक लापता हो गई. फिर अचानक एक दिन लौटी. लोकसभा चुनावों की हवा में ट्रांसफरमर बदला, तार बदले, लेकिन इस आंधी का क्या करे जिसने अचानक आ कर कई खंभे उखाड़ दिये.
घर में हुई चोरी की तफ़्तीश के लिए कई रास्तों का सहारा लिया गया था. पुलिसिया रास्ता भी. इन्क्वायरी के लिये आये जमादार साहब की दो हज़ारी की डिमांड को मैंने आदर्शवाद से व्यवहारवाद की धरातल पर उतर कर मोलतोल के उपरांत पांच सौ में निपटाया.
‘गाड़ी का तेल और पुलिस पार्टी में पांच आदमी का खरचा इतना में कैसे होगा जी?’
अरे सर! मेरेयहां चोरी हुआ है…पापा नहीं हैं …इतना ही है घर में … कहां से लाएं …
इंक्वायरी की औपचारिकता के लिये आये इस दल को देखनेके लिये बिना टिकट दर्शकों की भीड़ जमा हो गई थी. और मेरे द्वारा की गई कमी की भरपाई करने के लिये वे जाते-जाते लोगों के छान-छप्पर से कोहंड़ा- भथुआ (जिससे मुरब्बा या पेठा बनता है) लेते गये. दूसरा रास्ता था ओझा-गुनी वाला. एक साथ ऐसे कितने ओझाओं की ख्याति हमारे पास पहुँच गई जो चोरी करने वाले का एक दम से नाम बता देते थे. इसमें सबसे गुप्त सुझाव देने वाले पड़ोस की एक महिला ने चुपचाप रह कर उपाय करने के लिये कहा और इसके लिये मुझे ‘प्रेम’ की सहायता लेनी थी. प्रेम गाँव में वरिष्ठ संस्कृतिकर्मी है. गाँव में नाटक, अष्टयाम, अराधना, कीर्तन, होरी इत्यादि में उनकी उपस्थिति लाजिमी होती है. वे सधे गायक, पके अभिनेता, जमे नाल वादक और तपे-तपाए संगठनकर्ता हैं. उनको बुलाने के लिये उनके घर
