हरिजन की लाश किसान के खेत में रहस्यमय मृत्यु या कत्ल?
खबर पढ़कर सुनाई जाती है। आगे चलकर इस खबर को जातीय, वर्गीय, व्यावसायिक राजनीति से जोड़ा जाता है या यों कहें कि उन्हें उस पर लादा जाता है। अखबार को लेकर पहले से ही डरे-सहमे हमारे देहात के लोग यह सोचकर अचानक बिगड़ जाते हैं कि दुनिया की नजरें हम पर टिकी हुई हैं। लेकिन कुछ किसान इस एहसास से सजग भी हो जाते हैं कि चलो, पहली बार ही सही, इसी बहाने विशाल सामाजिक अखबार हमारे क्षुद्र जीवन को स्पर्श तो कर रहे हैं।
शुरू में डींगमारे देशमुख कहता है, आजकल कानून भी किसान के खिलाफ बन रहे हैं। कानून ही ऐसे बनाए गए हैं कि किसान न कुछ बोए, न फसल ही ले पाए। अजी, कल ऐसा भी कानून बनेगा कि महार-मातंग लोग कुर्मियों की गाँड मारें। सफेदपोश लोग शहरों में बैठकर ऐसे ही खेती के खिलाफ धंधे करेंगे। हमारे इलाके के कुर्मी ही साले गाँडू हैं। दूसरी तरफ के लोग नहीं सहेंगे ये।…मतलब?…अरे ये हरिजन बस इतना ही पुलिस चौकी पर जाकर बोल दें न कि अमुक आदमी ने हमें हमारी जाति का नाम लेकर गालियाँ दीं, तब भी पुलिस को शिकायत दर्ज करनी ही पड़ती है और आपको पकड़कर ले जाना ही पड़ता है जेल में। क्यों पाहुने जी, क्या आपके यहाँ मुगलई में ऐसा ही चलता है?
मोरगाँव में मेहमान बनकर आया मराठवाड़ा का एक बचकाना बूढ़ा हँसते हुए बोला, हमारे यहाँ? एक दफे चोर मिल जाए न, तो पीट-पीटकर वहीं गाड़ देते हैं साले मादरचोद को। कानून और पुलिस, हॅ हॅऽ, अब देखो, हमारे चार लड़के हैं, तगड़े, एक-एक ऐसा है कि दस पर भारी पड़े। बचपन से ही खेत में पलकर बड़े हुए, बीवी-बच्चे भी जल्दी ही हुए। हमारे कुओं में पानी भी खूब लबालब। सब्जियाँ, खीरा, गन्ना—खूब दबाकर सब्जी-तरकारी उगाते हैं साथ में। कुत्ते हैं चौकन्ने। मेंड़ पर जरा-सी भी खसखस सुनाई दी, तो एक-एक लड़का दौड़ता है मेंड़ पर लाठी लेकर। दीवार पर ही गँड़ासे, तलवारें टँगी रहती हैं। कोई चोर दिखाई दे, तो समझो हो गया उसका राम नाम सत्य। फिर साल-दो-साल हमारे खेत में कदम रखने की हिम्मत नहीं होती किसी की। काहे की पुलिस और काहे का कानून जी—
हम मेहनती लोग ऐसे झंझट क्यों पालें? ऐसा भी कहीं होता है? क्या कानून केवल किसानों के लिए है? चोरों के लिए नहीं?
परसों हमारे गाँव के छोटे-छोटे बच्चे लाठी-लाठी खेल रहे थे—मतलब हरेक के हाथ में लाठी। ठीक उसी समय हमारे अटाले से अनाज चुराकर खलिहान की ओर से चोर दौड़ते हुए आए। पकड़ो, पकड़ो का शोर हुआ और बच्चों ने देखते-ही-देखते चोरों को लंबा कर दिया। हॉ हॉ हॉ। नहीं-नहीं करते-करते पानी माँगने लगे। कुर्मी की मेहनत का क्या कोई मोल नहीं? अजी, पानी को प्यास लगती है और रोटी को भूख, फिर भी किसान सोचता है, इतनी पाँत पूरी करेंगे, इतना गट्ठर बाँधेंगे। फिर? अजी गर्मी में भी दो पल खाली नहीं बैठ सकते। खाद डालो, खलिहान ठीक करो, मवेशियों का गोठ बनाओ, बाड़ लगाओ, टट्टी थापो, छप्पर छवाओ, खत्ता खोदो, पोतो, बीज चुनकर फटककर रखो, बुआई की तैयारी करो, हल-अकरी का पसारा—बहनचोद बढ़ई दस चक्कर मरवाता है। लुहार कहता है, समय नहीं है। जोतना, हेंगा चलाना, कटिया की जड़ें चुनना, कुंदा खोदना, ग्वार उखाड़ना, मेंड बनाना—धूप तो और भी तेज होती जाती है। किससे कहें भई?
एक-दो बूढ़े बोले, चाहे जो हो। हम तो बली के वंशज हैं। इस तरह किसी को मारना ठीक नहीं। कुर्मी को चाहिए कि चोर को केवल टोके। चोरी करते हुए रँगे हाथ पकड़ा जाए तो भी चोर को मारना नहीं चाहिए। गरीब लोग होते हैं। भूख ने पेट में उछल-कूद मचाई, चुराया और खा लिया। चोरी-चकारी तो लगी ही रहती है। हमारा वारकरी धर्म—पंछी, चूहे, सूअर, हिरन, गीदड़, चिड़िया फसल खाते हैं या नहीं? ये धरती माँ का कर्ज होता है बच्चो, सभी का हिस्सा होता है उसमें—
अगर ऐसा है दादाजी, तो खेती को खैराती धंधा घोषित कीजिए न। इंग्लैंड-अमेरिका का किसान भी क्या इसी तरह खेती करता है? या केवल हिंदू किसान ही संसार-भर का देनदार है? उसका अपना कोई हक नहीं?
अजी कैसी बातें कहते हो जी? क्या कुर्मी का जनम केवल फसल उगाने के लिए ही हुआ है? हमारे खलिहान में कोठरी का छप्पर खोलकर तैयार चने के बोरे लेकर भाग गए चोर बीते साल। हम बाहर खटिया डालकर सोए थे। क्या रखवाली करेंगे?
अजी, सिर पर चढ़ा रखा है सरकार ने इन लोगों को। अंधाधुंध कर्ज दिया इन्हें भैंस पालने के लिए। लेकिन चारा?—इधर हमारी फसलें हैं न खेतों में खड़ी। इन्हीं के लिए तो बुआई करते हैं हम—रात-बेरात भरी फसल में भैंस को घुसा देते हैं—क्या हम फसल में खटिया डालकर सोएँ? क्या ये लिखेंगे अखबारवाले—क्या रात-भर उन्हें यूँ खेत के अनाज की रखवाली करनी पड़ती है? उनके दफ्तर के सामने चौकीदार होता है। क्या वे लोग चोरों को नहीं पीटते? वहाँ सामाजिक न्याय लागू नहीं होता? माँ के जने। पुलिस, बंदूक, मशीनगन होती हैं उनकी रखवाली के लिए। और हम एक रखिया रखते हैं तो हरिजनों पर अत्याचार? क्या ये न्याय है? वाह भई वाह। मतलब ये शहरों में आराम से नौकरियाँ करेंगे और इधर बारह महीने कड़ी मेहनत में फसल उगानेवालों को ही धमकियाँ? यहाँ मामूली पुलिस कंपलेन करना चाहे तो भी है कहाँ पुलिस की चौकी? रात का अपराध क्या वे सुबह दर्ज करेंगे? हँसते हैं वे भी।
बिलकुल सच है, मादरचोद संपादक श्रम की प्रतिष्ठा को खाक जानता है। किसान को हर चीज की रखवाली खुद करनी पड़ती है, मादरजात। अनाज, धान तो छोड़ ही दो, खेत की बाड़, यहाँ तक कि मिट्टी की भी रखवाली करनी पड़ती है, दिन-रात। हमारा पसारा ऐसा खुले में। मादरचोद चोर कब और कहाँ नहीं होते? है कहीं किसान के लिए गोदाम या भंडार, मुआवजा या बीमा? शहर में तो मोटर-गाड़ियों तक का भी बीमा होता है। किसान के यहाँ काम के लिए आदमी पूरे नहीं पड़ते, तो चोरों का और मजदूरों का कौन देखे—
उसमें भी बुआई और रोपाई की आपाधापी—घर के बूढ़े-जवान, बाल-बच्चे, औरतें सभी बावलों की तरह भागादौड़ी करते रहते हैं। अजी, कभी-कभी सारा पेट बाहर आने को होता है। उस पर बरसात का सनकीपन, दौंगड़ा, अतिवृष्टि, फसल ही बह जाती है और गला सूखने तक चिल्लाना तो है ही, धत् तेरी—चिड़ियाँ, खेत में खड़ी फसल से अनाज चुगनेवाली जंगली चिड़ियाँ, सातभाई, तोता, जंगली सूअर, हिरन, आवारा पशु, भैंसे, साँड़, गधे, बकरियाँ और उचक्के—अरे ओ कुर्मी, एक ही तो भुट्टा लिया है, किस्मत चुरा ली क्या तेरी, खाने दे न भुक्खड़ऽ, पेट के लिए ही खा रहा हूँ—ऊपर से ऐसी बातें।
अजी, किसान की सबसे बड़ी बैरी ये खेती है। वही उसका पूरा फोता निचोड़ डालती है। दूसरा बैरी है व्यापारी—जैसे ही फसल खलिहान में आई, वो साला दाम गिरा देगा मादरचोद, तीसरी बैरी है सरकार—पटवारी, मामलेदार, बैंकवाले, जोनल अफसर—एक खरीद-बिक्री में सौ-दो-सौ रुपए काट लेते हैं। जिस तरह अमरबेल जिंदा पेड़ को खा जाती है, वैसे ही ये किसान को खाते हैं।
