यह पृथ्वी, मेरा भाई
एक पहचानी हुई आवाज़ में सुबह चटकती है
हवाओं को चीरती हुई
हमारे मंदिरों को गिरा चकनाचूर करती
हमारी आशा के चर्च की परवरिश करती
उन वेदियों पर हमारी जान की पेशकश करती
बहुत पहले की गई सफाई के लिए।
वायुतरंगों के भीतर जो हम अंतड़ियों में ढोते हैं
और प्रार्थना करते हैं
अकेली सड़क के किनारों से चीख उठती है
जैसे बंदूकधारियों का आवारा जूता।
मैं ‘हिस्सोप‘ का प्याला उठाता हूँ
और आँसू प्यास के होंठ को छूते हैं
आसमान घृणा और मृत्यु के लाखों मीनारों बीच रोता है
हम प्रार्थना करते हैं
चमक की इकलौती आशा के लिए
मेरी स्पर्धा की मंज़िल चमकती है
मोक्ष की तलवार दिखाई देती है।
उस समय मेरा संगीत बजने लगता है
रत्न और जड़ी बूटियों से कमरा महकता है
मेरी जाति के घाव को भरने के लिए
शोधक चमक को हमेशा के लिए धोने हेतु
जैसे हम नए मक्के के लिए अन्न भंडार खोजते हैं।
हम उसकी आशा करते हैं,
जो कभी चमत्कार था
उस मोक्ष की प्रतीक्षा में
जिसे हमने कई प्रार्थनाओं में मांगा था
कई तरह से प्रस्तुत होता है।
जलते हुए पैरों के मौसम में
खराब फसल और विनाश का विवाह होता है
उस समय तलवार की चमक और बढ़ जाती है
जो ईस्टर के चाकू की प्रतिकृति जैसी लगती है।
तन्हा आसमान के चारों ओर आवाज़ें धूमती हैं
नर्तकी अपने कपड़े एकत्रित करती है
पेशकश की गई गायों की खाल खींचती है
खुद को नया ‘ड्रम‘ बनाने के लिए।
दूर-दूर तक आवारा आसमान रोता है
उन पैरों की लय में
अपने हिंसा की नकल करते हुए।
सड़क के साथ-साथ चलते हुए
घायल और बेड़ी में बंद घसीटे जाते हैं
हम सबकी खुशी के लिए।
हम विजेता के कदमों में फूल चढ़ाते हैं
अपने पापों से मुक्ति के लिए भीख मांगते हैं।
…वह कब्र से बाहर आएगा
उसके कपड़े उसके चारों तरफ बिखरेंगे
तब कीड़े उनके काम नहीं आएंगे।
उसका चेहरा कई सूर्यों-सा चमक उठेगा।
उसकी चाल में विजेता का-सा असर होगा,
उसका माथा हज़ारों सितारो-सा चमकेगा
वह रहस्योद्घाटन के बाद घुटने पर झुकेगा
और इसी पृथ्वी पर मर जाएगा।
और मैं प्रार्थना करता हूँ
मेरे पहाड़ों को और ऊँचा किया जाए
और जो मुझे साफ करता है
साँस लेता है
मर जाएगा।
वे उन्हें विशालता के पार ले जाएँ
जैसे वे उनके जाते ही वे लड़खड़ाने लगे
और फिर गुलाब-सा।
वे चारागाह के टीले के किनारे गए
और एक मौन प्रार्थना में झुक गए

अचानक वे फिर उठे
