नरेन्द्र कोहली को व्यास सम्मान मिलने पर मेरा यह लेख आज के ‘दैनिक हिन्दुस्तान’ में प्रकाशित हुआ है. नरेन्द्र कोहली कोई महान लेखक नहीं हैं लेकिन एक जरुरी लेखक जरुर हैं. ऐसा मेरा मानना है- प्रभात रंजन

नरेन्द्र कोहली को वर्ष 2012 का व्यास सम्मान दिया गया तो उनके लेखन को लेकर, उनके उपन्यासों को लेकर कई तरह की बातें कही गई, यह भी कहा गया कि वे आधुनिक दौर के व्यास हैं. पुरा-कथाओं को उन्होंने आज के सन्दर्भों, जीवन-स्थितियों से इस तरह जोड़ कर प्रस्तुत किया कि पढ़ने वालों को वह अपनी कथा लगने लगी. यही कारण है कि देखते-देखते वे हिंदी के बेहद लोकप्रिय लेखकों में शुमार किए जाने लगे. यह भी कहा जाता है कि 1975 में उन्होंने ‘दीक्षा’ जैसा उपन्यास लिखकर देश में, फैली निराशा, हताशा के दौर राम जैसे महानायक को प्रस्तुत किया जो आताताइयों की सत्ता से लड़ता है और उनको पराजित कर देता है. रामायण की मूल कथा को बिना परिवर्तित किए उन्होंने उसकी एक ऐसी व्याख्या की जो आम आदमी के जीवन के अधिक करीब है. बहरहाल, सब तरह की बातों का अपना महत्व है. तब हिंदी सिनेमा में ‘एंग्री यंग मैन’ का दौर था. नरेन्द्र कोहली ने बुराइयों से लड़ने वाले नायक का उस दौर में पुनराविष्कार किया.
बहरहाल, नरेन्द्र कोहली को मिले इस सम्मान के बाद मुझे लगता है कि उनके लेखन को एक और सन्दर्भ में देखा जाना भी प्रासंगिक होगा. हिंदी में आम तौर दो तरह के लेखन का ही बोलबाला है. एक तरफ गंभीर साहित्यिक लेखन है दूसरी तरफ लोकप्रिय के नाम पर चालू लुगदी साहित्य है. लेकिन ऐसा साहित्य हिंदी में नहीं के बराबर है जो पाठकों को गंभीर साहित्य की दिशा में ले जाए, उनके अंदर सुरुचिपूर्ण साहित्य पढ़ने की ललक पैदा करे. नरेन्द्र कोहली के उपन्यासों ने यही काम किया है. इसमें कोई संदेह नहीं है कि नरेन्द्र कोहली ने हिंदी में बड़े पैमाने पर पाठक पैदा किए हैं. एक दौर में शिवानी जैसी लेखिका ने यही काम किया था.
ऐसे समय में जब हिंदी में पाठकों के कम होते जाने का रोना रोया जाता है, यह कहा जाता है कि हिंदी में किताबें छपती हैं और पुस्तकालयों में धूल खाने के लिए बेच दी जाती है, कि पाठकों को ध्यान में रखकर न तो किताबें लिखी जाती हैं, न पाठकों तक किताबों को पहुंचाने का कोई गंभीर और सुव्यवस्थित प्रयास हिंदी में दिखाई देता है. बावजूद इसके नरेन्द्र कोहली के उपन्यास दीक्षा, तोड़ो कारा तोड़ो, महासमर आदि को छोटे-छोटे शहरों के पाठक ढूंढते फिरते हैं और छोटी-छोटी किताब की दुकानों पर भी वे सहज ही उपलब्ध हो जाते हैं. नरेन्द्र कोहली के लेखन की जो सबसे बड़ी विशेषता लक्षित की जा सकती है वह यह कि उन्होंने हिंदी के अकादमिक जगत या आलोचकों को ध्यान में रखकर ही लेखन नहीं किया बल्कि हमेशा उनकी नजर में हिंदी के दूखे-रूखे प्रदेशों के पाठक ही रहे. हिंदी में पाठक केंद्रित लेखन कम हुआ है, आज भी हिंदी में पाठक-केंद्रित लेखन को कमतर माना जाता है. नरेन्द्र कोहली ने न केवल इस चुनौती को स्वीकार किया बल्कि वे अपने इस प्रयास में वे सफल भी रहे. हालांकि यह भी सच है कि साहित्य में सफलता श्रेष्ठता का कोई पैमाना नहीं होता.
जिस दौर में हिंदी में यथार्थवाद आलोचना की सबसे बड़ी कसौटी रही उस दौर में उन्होंने अपने उपन्यासों के माध्यम से हिंदी साहित्य में आदर्श की स्थापना का प्रयास किया. एक ऐसा आदर्श जो परिवार, समाज से लेकर देशकाल तक विस्तृत है. उनकी उपन्यास श्रृंखला ‘तोड़ो कारा तोड़ो’ का उल्लेख इस सन्दर्भ में विशेष रूप से किया जा सकता है, जो विवेकानंद के जीवन पर आधारित है. उन्होंने एक तरफ राम का आदर्श प्रस्तुत किया तो दूसरी तरफ आधुनिक संत विवेकानंद का विराट रूप अपने उपन्यासों में दिखाया, जो अनुकरणीय हो सकता है. ‘महाकाव्यात्मक उपन्यासों’ की यथार्थवादी धारा का बेहतरीन उपयोग करके उन्होंने समाज में पुराने आदर्शों को नए रूप में स्थापित किया. यह उनका ऐसा योगदान है जो उनको हिंदी में अपने ढंग का अकेला उपन्यासकार बनाता है.
ऐसा नहीं है कि नरेन्द्र कोहली ने केवल पौराणिक संदर्भों के आधुनिक व्याख्यापरक उपन्यास ही लिखे या उन्होंने समाज में पौराणिक आदर्शों की स्थापना का प्रयास ही अपने लेखन के माध्यम से किया, बल्कि नरेन्द्र कोहली ने बड़ी मात्रा में व्यंग्य भी लिखा है. उनके दर्जन भर से अधिक व्यंग्य संग्रह प्रकाशित हैं. उनकी करीब पैंतीस पुस्तकों के प्रकाशक वाणी प्रकाशन के निदेशक अरुण माहेश्वरी उनकी अपार लोकप्रियता का कारण कुछ और मानते हैं. उनके अनुसार नरेन्द्र कोहली अपने व्यंग्य-लेखों के माध्यम से समाज की, राजनीति की विद्रूपताओं को सामने लाते हैं और अपने महाकाव्यात्मक प्रकृति के उपन्यासों के माध्यम से उन विद्रूपताओं के निवारण के मार्ग बताते हैं. यथार्थ अपनी जगह है लेकिन आदर्श की सम्भावना हमेशा बनी रहनी चाहिए. सब कुछ छिन्न-भिन्न हो रहा है लेकिन ऐसा नहीं है कि उसे बेहतर बनाने की संभावनाएं भी शेष हो गई हैं. नरेन्द्र कोहली के लेखन को सम्पूर्णता में देखने पर उनका महत्व और भी अच्छी तरह से समझ में आता है.
यह कहना अतिशयोक्ति हो सकती है कि नरेन्द्र कोहली एक महान लेखक हैं, लेकिन यह कहना गलत नहीं होगा कि वे हिंदी के एक जरुरी लेखक हैं. यह कहा जाता है कि उनके लेखन ने देश में संकीर्ण विचारधारा वाली शक्तियों को मजबूती दी, जिस दौर में वे उच्च आदर्शों की बात करते रहे उसी दौर में समाज में आदर्शों का विघटन होता रहा, समाज को बांटने वाली शक्तियों का जोर बढ़ता गया, परिवार और समाज का वह ताना-बाना बिखरता गया. इसलिए उनके आदर्श प्रधान लेखन के पाठक भले हजारों-लाखों रहे रहे लेकिन समाज पर उसका कोई प्रभाव पड़ा हो ऐसा नहीं दिखाई देता. लेकिन दूसरी तरफ यह भी सचाई है कि साहित्य का उद्देश्य समाज सुधार नहीं होता. साहित्यकार तो अपने लेखन के माध्यम से कुछ संभावनाओं की तरफ इशारा भर कर सकता है. और इसमें कोई संदेह नहीं कि नरेन्द्र कोहली के उपन्यासों लगातार उन संभावनाओं का चेहरा दिखाया है. कहा जा सकता है कि नरेन्द्र कोहली अपने ढंग के ऐसे अकेले लेखक हैं जिन्होंने भले रामायण-महाभारत की कथाओं की व्याख्या की हो, लेकिन मूल कथा को बिना बदले उन्होंने उनको हमारे दौर का आख्यान बना दिया. उन्होंने राम कथा वाचकों की तरह राम नाम की महिमा बताकर धार्मिक माहौल नहीं बनाया बल्कि धार्मिक कथाओं को सामाजिक सन्दर्भों से जोड़कर उन्हें समकालीन बना दिया. शायद यही कारण है कि नरेन्द्र कोहली के लेखन की प्रासंगिकता बनी हुई है. संभव है उन्होंने कोई क्लासिक न लिखा हो, लेकिन उन्होंने क्लैसिक्स को आम जन की भाषा में लिखकर हिंदी के आम पाठकों तक जरुर पहुंचा दिया. जो एक बड़ी उपलब्धि है. अंग्रेजी में जब अमीश त्रिपाठी जैसे लेखक शिव त्रयी लिखकर लोकप्रिय होते हैं तो नरेन्द्र कोहली जैसे लेखकों का महत्व समझ में आता है. भारतीय सन्दर्भ भारतीय पाठकों को जोड़ते हैं.

महाराज अगर ऐसा होता तो रामायण के बाद भारत मे गलत होता ही नहीं। साहित्यकार का काम है दिशा की तरफ इशारा करना। पथिक किस तरफ चलेगा यह साहित्यकार का काम नहीं है।
इस अर्थमे देखें तो शायद कुछ मसला हल हो। अन्यथा आपके कसौटी पर वेद कार से लेकर पुराणकार तक गलत होगें

नरेन्द्र कोहली का लेखन पौराणिक आख्यानों में निहित आधुनिकता सम्मत मानवीय प्रासंगिकता कि निर्दोष प्रस्तुति करता है .वे धार्मिक आख्यानों को साहित्यिक आख्यानों में प्रभावशाली,विश्वसनीय एवं युगानुरूप रूपान्तरण प्रस्तुत करते हैं .इसी दृष्टि से वे एक जरुरी और विशेषज्ञ लेखक हैं .

When I originally commented I seem to have clicked the -Notify me when new comments are added- checkbox and now each time a comment is added I recieve four emails with the same comment. Is there a means you can remove me from that service? Cheers!
