अशोक वाजपेयी के जन्मदिन पर जानकी पुल की ओर से शुभकामनाएं.
अशोक वाजपेयी आज 72 साल के हो गए. इस उम्र में भी उनकी सक्रियता नई पीढ़ी के लिए प्रेरणाप्रद है. हर हफ्ते ‘जनसत्ता में प्रकाशित होने वाला उनका स्तंभ निस्संदेह किसी हिंदी लेखक का सबसे अधिक नियमित और सबसे अधिक पढ़ा जाने वाला कॉलम है. हिंदी के पाठकों के लिए एक तरह से यह कॉलम विश्व साहित्य के झरोखे की तरह है, हालांकि यह कॉलम केवल विश्व साहित्य को लेकर नहीं है. इस स्तंभ के माध्यम से पता चलता है कि वे नियमित तौर पर कितना पढते हैं. एक वरिष्ठ लेखक अपनी मेज को इसके माध्यम से पाठकों से साझा करता है.
वे मूलतः कवि है. हिंदी कविता की दूसरी परंपरा की वे सबसे बुलंद आवाज. हिंदी कविता की अनेक परम्पराओं की गूँज उनकी कविता में सुनाई देती है. उनका हर कविता संग्रह पाठकों के लिए कुछ नया लेकर आता है. कविता के रूप, विषयवस्तु को लेकर जितने प्रयोग उन्होंने किए हैं उतने शायद ही किसी अन्य कवि ने किए हैं. न ही परिमाण में इतनी अधिक कविताएँ किसी कवि ने लिखी हैं. यह एक तथ्य है.
अशोक वाजपेयी की उपस्थिति सांस्कृतिक क्षेत्र में विराट है. आरम्भ से ही उनकी चिंताओं में कलाओं और साहित्य की दूरी को कम करने की चिंता शामिल रही है. एक ऐसा मंच बने जिसे कलाकार-साहित्यकार मिलकर साझा करें. इसके लिए रजा फाउन्डेशन नियमित तौर पर कार्यक्रम का आयोजन करता है, पत्रिकाओं का प्रकाशन करता है, जिसके पीछे अशोक वाजपेयी की प्रेरणा और कल्पनाशीलता काम करती है.
आज के दिन ‘जानकी पुल’ यही कामना करता है कि अशोक वाजपेयी दीर्घायु हों तथा उनकी सक्रियता इसी तरह नए लेखकों-कलाकारों के लिए प्रेरणाप्रद बनी रहे.

कविता सब कुछ के बीतने पर
अविरल विलाप है—
पर जो हँस-खेल कर
अपने दिन बिताना चाहते हैं
वे क्योंकर इस विलाप पर ध्यान दें.

आज उनकी एक नई काव्यकृति 'कहीं कोई दरवाजा' और प्रेम कविताओं का चयन'आश्चर्य की तरह खुला है संसार'का लोकार्पण हो रहा है। यह प्रसन्नता की बात है।
